The clock runs out today. IIT Kharagpur will shut the IIT JAM 2027 registration window on October 19, 2026, closing the Joint Admission Test for Masters for this year’s cycle. Students who have not applied yet must submit their forms through the official JOAPS portal before the day ends.

JAM 2027 is the doorway to 89 postgraduate programmes across all 23 IITs for the 2027-28 academic year. The score opens admission to MSc, MSc (Tech), MS (Research), MSc-MTech dual degrees, joint MSc-PhD and MSc-PhD dual degrees, and integrated PhD programmes. The computer-based test will be held on Sunday, February 14, 2027, in around 114 cities across India.

The deadline is today: miss it and you wait a full year

Once the application window closes, no forms will be accepted. There is no second chance in this cycle. Students who let today pass will have to wait for the next JAM, a full year away, to try for these IIT seats again.

JAM is conducted by IIT Kharagpur this year for admission to postgraduate programmes at the Indian Institutes of Technology and other participating institutes. Graduates, and students who are in the final year of their bachelor’s degree in 2027, are eligible to apply.

October has been a busy month for exam registration deadlines — GATE 2027 and JEE Main 2027 windows have also been on students’ lists. If JAM is on your plan, today is the last call.

Fees first: Rs 2,000 to Rs 2,700 depending on your papers

The application fee depends on your category and on whether you pick one test paper or two. General and OBC candidates pay Rs 2,000 for one paper and Rs 2,700 for two papers. Female, SC, ST and PwD candidates pay Rs 1,000 for one paper and Rs 1,350 for two papers.

You can choose one or two test papers, but two papers must be picked from different sessions. Seven test papers are on offer: Biotechnology, Chemistry, Economics, Geology, Mathematics, Mathematical Statistics and Physics. The fee is paid online at the time of submission.

“Once the application window closes, no forms will be accepted. If you have not applied yet, finish the form today.”

February 14 exam: the morning and evening sessions

The exam runs in two sessions on the same day. The forenoon session, from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm, will hold Chemistry, Geology and Mathematics. The afternoon session, from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm, will hold Biotechnology, Economics, Mathematical Statistics and Physics.

Remember the rule when you pick papers: if you appear for two test papers, they must be scheduled in different sessions. Check the session list before you pay, because you cannot change it after submission.

Apply in 10 steps on the official JOAPS portal

Everything runs through the JAM Online Application Processing System. Open the official IIT JAM portal and follow these steps:

  1. On the homepage, click the application portal link at the top.
  2. Register as a new user with your name, email address and mobile number.
  3. Note down the enrollment ID and password you receive after registration.
  4. Log in to the portal with the enrollment ID and password.
  5. Fill in the application form with your personal and academic details.
  6. Choose your test paper or papers, keeping the two-session rule in mind.
  7. Select your examination city from the list.
  8. Upload the required documents, such as your photograph, signature and certificates, in the specified format.
  9. Pay the application fee through the available online payment options.
  10. Review every detail, submit the form, and download the confirmation page.

Save the confirmation page and the payment receipt. You will need them later, at the correction stage and during counselling.

After you submit: keep an eye on the official website

IIT Kharagpur will open a window for candidates to make changes to their submitted forms after the registration closes. Check the official website regularly for the correction dates and the counselling schedule that follows the February 14 exam.

Fill the form slowly and enter every detail carefully today. Most correction windows only allow small edits, and some carry an extra charge. A calm ten minutes now beats a rushed fix later.
