JEE Main 2027: Registration Expected This Month, Exam From January 22

If you are preparing for JEE Main 2027, keep your documents ready now. Registration for Session 1 is expected to open in late October, and the exam is tentatively set for January 22 to 30, 2027.
The National Testing Agency (NTA) has not yet announced the exact registration dates. But the exam calendar is out, and going by past years, the application window should open in the last week of October. The official website for all updates is jeemain.nta.nic.in, and that is where the form will appear once it goes live.
What is confirmed so far
The NTA released its tentative exam calendar on September 16, 2026, covering 14 national-level exams. In that calendar, JEE Main 2027 Session 1 is listed for six exam days: January 22, 23, 24, 28, 29 and 30, 2027. January 31 is kept as a buffer day in case any paper has to be rescheduled.
The NTA has made one thing clear. The calendar is only a tentative schedule, not the official exam notification. The detailed information bulletin, with the fee structure and subject scheme, will come out separately. If the NTA shifts a date, the bulletin will say so.
Going by the trend of recent years, registration opens about two and a half to three months before the exam. Last year, the JEE Main 2026 Session 1 form was open from October 31 to November 27, 2025, for a January exam. That is why most reports expect the 2027 form in the last week of October, with the window closing sometime in November.
Who can apply for JEE Main 2027
Students who passed Class 12 or an equivalent exam in 2025 or 2026, or who are appearing for Class 12 in 2027, are expected to be eligible. The final eligibility rules will be in the official information bulletin, so check it before you apply.
There is no age limit for JEE Main. But you can attempt the exam for a maximum of three consecutive years from your passing year. Students planning a drop year should keep that rule in mind.
For admission to NITs, IIITs and other centrally funded institutes, you need at least 75 per cent in Class 12 or a place in the top 20 percentile of your board. For SC and ST candidates, the minimum is 65 per cent.
“The calendar gives you the plan. The information bulletin gives you the rules. Wait for the bulletin before you trust any fee or date you see on social media.”
Documents you should keep ready today
Do not wait for the registration link to open before you arrange your papers. The form asks for uploads, and a last-minute scramble for a scanned signature is the most common reason students make mistakes. Keep these ready:
- A recent passport-size photograph, with most of your face visible against a plain background
- Your signature, signed in blue or black ink on plain white paper and scanned clearly
- Your Class 10 certificate or marksheet, used to verify your name and date of birth
- A valid identity document
- Your category certificate, if you are applying under a reserved category
- Your PwD or UDID certificate, if applicable
One detail matters more than the rest. The name and date of birth you enter in the form must match your Class 10 certificate exactly. A mismatch can cause trouble later, during counselling. If you are unsure about any document, our college admission documents checklist covers what most colleges and forms ask for.
How to apply once registration opens
The application process is fully online. When the link goes live, follow these steps:
- Go to the official JEE Main website and select the registration link for Session 1.
- Enter your basic details to generate an application number and password.
- Log in and fill in your personal, academic and contact details.
- Select your paper, exam cities and other preferences as instructed.
- Upload your photo, signature and other documents in the required format.
- Pay the application fee through the online payment options.
- Download and save the confirmation page and the payment receipt.
Keep your application number and password safe. You will need them for the admit card, the result, and later for counselling.
The fee for JEE Main 2027 will be announced in the information bulletin. As a rough reference, the 2026 fee for Paper 1 at Indian centres was Rs 1,000 for General male candidates, Rs 800 for General female candidates, Rs 900 for Gen-EWS and OBC-NCL male candidates, and Rs 500 for SC, ST and PwD candidates. Do not treat these as the 2027 figures.
What to do while you wait
The next few weeks are the right time to finish your paperwork and tighten your preparation. Get your photo and signature scanned to the right specifications, check that your certificates are in order, and keep an eye on the official portal rather than rumours on social media.
Students who qualify through JEE Main will later move to JoSAA counselling for NITs, IIITs and other institutes. The JEE Advanced 2026 branch preferences report shows how seat choices play out at the top end, and it is worth a read if IITs are on your list.
For now, the message is simple. The exam dates are on the calendar, the form is expected this month, and the bulletin will confirm the rest. Keep your documents ready, and check the official website for the announcement.
