NEET PG 2026: 8 Days Left to Fill Round 1 Choices, Seat Allotment on Oct 24

Choice filling for NEET PG 2026 Round 1 is open right now, and the window closes at 10 AM on October 22. If you have qualified NEET PG 2026 and want a postgraduate medical seat this year, this is the step that decides which college and branch you get. Fill your choices on the official MCC portal and lock them before the deadline. The Round 1 seat allotment result comes out on October 24.
Registration is still open too, but not for long. NEET PG 2026 Round 1 registration closes at 12 noon on October 21, and fee payment stays open till 3 PM the same day. You cannot fill choices without a completed registration, so finish that first if you have not done it yet.
Round 1 dates: what closes when
MCC is running Round 1 counselling for 50% All India Quota seats, plus seats in deemed and central universities, DNB courses and AFMS institutes. State quota counselling runs on a separate schedule through each state’s own authority. Keep these Round 1 dates in front of you:
- Registration and fee payment: till October 21 (12 noon for registration, 3 PM for payment)
- Choice filling: open now, closes October 22 at 10 AM
- Choice locking: October 21 (4 PM) to October 22 (10 AM)
- Seat allotment processing: October 22 to 23
- Round 1 seat allotment result: October 24
- Reporting and joining at allotted colleges: October 26 to November 2
- Verification of joined candidates’ data: November 3
The schedule is tentative, so check the MCC portal for any change. The postgraduate academic session begins on November 20.
How to fill your choices on the MCC portal
Log in to the MCC candidate portal with your NEET PG roll number and the password you set during registration. Then work through these steps:
- Open the choice-filling section and check the seat matrix for your category.
- Add the course and college combinations you want, in your true order of preference.
- Put your most wanted combination at the top. The allotment software moves down your list from number one.
- Save your choices, then review the full list once more.
- Lock your choices between 4 PM on October 21 and 10 AM on October 22.
- Take a printout of the locked choices and keep it with your counselling papers.
Your choice list is your real application. A high rank helps, but a careless order can hand your dream branch to someone ranked below you. Spend time on the order, not just on the names.
You can add as many choices as you want. There is no limit, and adding more options only gives the software more chances to find you a seat that fits your rank.
Order your choices like your rank depends on it, because it does
Start with branches you actually want, in colleges you would happily join. Check the seat matrix for how many seats exist in each branch and category, and look up the fee structure of deemed universities before you list them. Some deemed seats carry fees far above government colleges, and you pay at reporting time.
Mix ambition with realism. Put dream options at the top, then colleges where your rank has a fair chance, then a few safe options near the bottom. A list of only top colleges can end with no seat at all.
Fees and documents to keep ready
For AIQ and central university seats, General and EWS candidates pay a non-refundable fee of Rs 1,000 plus a refundable security deposit of Rs 25,000. SC, ST, OBC and PwD candidates pay Rs 500 plus a refundable deposit of Rs 10,000. For deemed universities, all categories pay Rs 5,000 plus a refundable deposit of Rs 2,00,000.
For reporting, keep these documents ready in original, with photocopies:
- NEET PG 2026 admit card and scorecard
- MBBS marksheets and degree or provisional degree certificate
- Internship completion certificate
- Permanent or provisional medical registration certificate
- Valid photo ID and date-of-birth proof
- Category, PwD or NCL certificate, where applicable
Colleges check every certificate against the details you gave during registration. Match names and dates across documents now, not on reporting day.
What happens after the result on October 24
On October 24, log in to your dashboard and download the provisional allotment letter if you get a seat. You will then state your willingness: freeze the seat, or keep the option of an upgrade in Round 2. To seek an upgrade, you must join the Round 1 seat and pick the upgrade option. If you do not join, you give up the seat and may lose the security deposit as per MCC rules.
Reporting runs from October 26 to November 2. Carry original documents and the fees the college asks for. Miss the window and the seat goes to the next round. Round 2 registration runs November 6 to 11, with its result on November 14. But Round 1 holds the widest set of seats, which is why this week’s choices matter so much.
For the latest admissions updates, keep checking the MCC portal and this section. Fill your choices early, lock them on time, and keep a printout of everything you submit.
