Only 8 Days: NIOS Bridge Course Registration Opens Today, Closes Oct 28

Follow us on Google

The National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) has reopened registration for its six-month Certificate Bridge Course in Primary Teacher Education. The portal opens today, October 21, 2026, and will close on October 28, 2026. Teachers who missed the earlier round have one more chance, but NIOS has made it clear: the last date will not be extended.

The course is meant for in-service primary school teachers who hold a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) degree. It was developed to help such teachers build the knowledge and practical skills needed to teach children in Classes 1 to 5.

NIOS bridge course registration 2026: how to apply in 7 steps

Applications are accepted only online. Go to the official bridge course portal and follow the steps below.

  1. Open the portal at bridge.nios.ac.in.
  2. Click on the “enroll now” option on the homepage.
  3. Read all instructions and eligibility conditions, then click “proceed”.
  4. Fill in your personal and professional details carefully.
  5. Upload the documents the form asks for.
  6. Pay the fee and submit the form.
  7. Download the confirmation page and keep a printout for your records.

After you submit, the process does not end there. Your school principal or head of school has to confirm your application, and then the state nodal officer gives the final confirmation. Check your application status on the portal so that no confirmation step is left pending. Keep your admission documents ready before you start, because the form asks you to upload them while you fill it.

Who can apply: the eligibility rule explained

The six-month course is for eligible in-service primary teachers appointed on the basis of a B.Ed qualification. It is tied to teachers appointed between June 28, 2018 and August 11, 2023. If your appointment falls in this period, read the eligibility conditions on the portal before you apply.

Teachers whose cases come under specific court orders have a separate registration path. They may need to submit an affidavit, a copy of the writ petition, and the court order. The portal carries separate instructions for them.

One thing to note: NIOS says this course is for eligible in-service teachers to meet the requirement for keeping their current primary teaching posts. It is not designed as a general qualification for fresh recruitment.

What the six-month course teaches

The programme covers child development, educational psychology, curriculum planning, teaching methods, and student assessment. It also includes subject-wise teaching approaches for languages, mathematics, and environmental studies, along with school-based experience.

Teaching is not only theory. The course mixes online contact classes with practical training in schools, so teachers learn classroom practices that fit how young children learn. The focus is on helping teachers understand children’s learning needs and run classrooms that keep young learners engaged.

The course was designed by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) under the overall supervision of the Ministry of Education. NIOS runs the programme.

“Teachers who have not yet registered should use this window. The last date will not be extended beyond October 28, 2026.” - NIOS notice

Why NIOS reopened the window

The institute reopened registrations after receiving requests from several stakeholders, including government teachers who had missed the earlier round. NIOS approved the move with the clearance of the competent authority.

That history tells you something important. The earlier round filled up with teachers who wanted to complete the course. If you are eligible and sat out the first round, this is likely your last chance to register without waiting for another announcement.

A few practical tips before you apply

Do not wait for the last day. Portals slow down when thousands of teachers log in together, and a failed payment or an upload error on October 28 leaves you no time to fix it. Fill the form early in the day and from a stable connection.

Match every name and date of birth with your official records. A mismatch between your application and your school records can stall the confirmation step, and corrections take time. If your school principal is on leave during this week, talk to the head of school now, because their confirmation is part of the process.
