CUET UG 2026: What Is Confirmed So Far

The Common University Entrance Test for undergraduates, or CUET UG, has completed its 2026 cycle. The exam was conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) between May 11 and May 31, 2026, with a few additional shifts on June 6 and 7. Results were declared on June 23, 2026, and universities have been carrying out admissions on the basis of these scores.

What CUET UG is

CUET UG is a national-level entrance test for admission to undergraduate programmes such as BA, BSc, BCom, BTech and BBA. It is conducted by NTA for admission to 47 central universities along with hundreds of other participating state, private and deemed universities across India.

One standard exam replaces a patchwork of separate entrance tests and board-mark cutoffs for these institutions. A candidate appears once, and the same score is used by every participating university that accepts it.

How the 2026 exam was conducted

The 2026 edition was held entirely in computer-based test (CBT) mode. According to NTA and multiple news reports, the exam ran in multiple shifts across 321 cities, including centres outside India such as Abu Dhabi, Doha, Kathmandu, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Riyadh and Washington.

The scale of the cycle was large. As per the official record, 15,68,867 candidates registered and 11,64,098 appeared, generating about 67.56 lakh test instances across 1,296 subject combinations. English was the most registered subject, with over 12.64 lakh candidates, followed by Chemistry, the General Aptitude Test, Physics and Mathematics.

Exam pattern and subjects

CUET UG 2026 offered 37 subjects in all: 13 languages, 23 domain-specific subjects and one General Aptitude Test. Candidates could choose up to five subjects, including languages and the General Aptitude Test. The choice did not have to match the subjects studied in Class 12.

Each paper carried 50 questions, all compulsory, with one hour allotted per paper. Question papers were set at the level of the NCERT syllabus. Papers were available in 13 languages: Assamese, Bengali, English, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Punjabi, Odia, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu. PwBD candidates were given compensatory time of 20 minutes per hour.

Registration timeline

Online registration for CUET UG 2026 opened on January 3, 2026 and closed on January 30, 2026. The fee could be paid until 11.50 PM on January 31. NTA also opened an application correction window in early February so candidates could fix errors in their forms.

Answer keys and result

NTA released the provisional answer key on June 9, 2026, along with the candidates’ question papers and recorded responses. Candidates could submit objections to the provisional key. After review by subject experts, the final answer key was released, and the result was declared on June 23, 2026.

The result is based entirely on the final answer key. NTA has stated clearly that after the result is announced, no request for re-evaluation or re-checking of the answer sheet is accepted. The scores on the scorecard are final.

How the scores are used

An important point to understand: NTA’s role is limited to registration, conduct of the test, hosting answer keys, finalising them, preparing and declaring results, and hosting the scorecard. Preparing merit lists and running counselling is the job of the participating universities and institutions.

After the results, each university releases its own admission timetable, cutoffs and counselling procedures. Students must apply separately to the universities of their choice and follow their counselling schedules. Who is eligible

As per the official notification, candidates who have passed Class 12 (10+2) or an equivalent examination from a recognised board were eligible, and those appearing for Class 12 in 2026 could also apply. There is no age limit for the exam itself, though individual universities may set their own age or eligibility conditions for admission.

Where to check official updates

The single most important habit for CUET aspirants is to rely on the official source. All notifications, the information brochure, syllabus, answer keys and the scorecard link are published on the official CUET portal. News reports and coaching portals are useful for alerts, but the portal is the only place where official notices appear.

Students preparing for the next cycle should watch the same portal for the new notification, which NTA typically releases a few months before registration opens.

What this means for students
