The Bihar Public Service Commission has published the final selection list for the Assistant Section Officer Mains exam, and 41 candidates have made it to the last list. Santosh Kumar tops the merit list. The result covers all 41 posts advertised under Advt. No. 37/2025, so every vacancy in this recruitment now has a name against it.

For the 609 candidates who sat for the mains exam on February 27, 2026, this list ends a wait of eight months.

Santosh Kumar tops, Sarita Kumari second

Santosh Kumar, roll number 841942, secured the first position in the final merit list. Sarita Kumari, roll number 873314, ranked second. She is the only woman among the top 10 rank holders. Rahulraj Kumar, roll number 873577, took the third spot.

A top-three finish in a state commission exam is no small thing. Out of 609 mains candidates, only 41 reached the final list, roughly one selection for every 15 candidates who wrote the mains.

How the 41 seats are shared across categories

The selection list is drawn up category by category, and the numbers match the advertised vacancies in each group. The unreserved category has the largest share with 16 selections, including 10 men and 6 women. Nine candidates each are selected from the SC and BC categories, four from EWS, and one each from ST, EBC and BCL.

Here is the full break-up:

  • Unreserved: 16 candidates
  • SC: 9 candidates
  • BC: 9 candidates
  • EWS: 4 candidates
  • ST: 1 candidate
  • EBC: 1 candidate
  • BCL: 1 candidate

Together, these add up to 41. Candidates should check the list under their own category, not just the combined merit order. Your roll number appears in the section that applies to you, and that is the entry that counts for your selection.

BPSC ASO Mains cut-off marks 2026

BPSC has also released the category-wise cut-off marks along with the result. The unreserved cut-off stands at 115 marks, while the EWS cut-off is 108 marks. SC candidates needed 102 marks and ST candidates needed 104 marks. Both EBC and BC candidates faced a cut-off of 113 marks.

Separate cut-offs apply for women candidates. The cut-off for unreserved women is 105 marks, EWS women 103 marks, SC women 91 marks and BC women 103 marks. For other groups, the BCL cut-off is 103 marks, while the cut-offs for candidates under the DD and MD disability categories are 87 and 85 marks. The cut-off for grandchildren of former freedom fighters is 100 marks.

From 609 mains candidates to 41 selections

The road to this list ran through several stages. After the mains exam on February 27, 2026, BPSC prepared a combined merit list of 594 candidates on the basis of General Knowledge marks. From there, 57 candidates were called for document verification, with the provisional list published on August 10, 2026. Verification took place on August 24 and September 1, 2026, and three candidates who did not turn up were left out.

One note in the result needs attention. The commission has said that the appointment of Rishu Kumar, listed at serial number 2 in the EWS category, will depend on the final decision of the court in a pending case in Muzaffarpur. Candidates in a similar spot should follow the official notice closely and not rely on messages passed around on social media.

How to check your roll number in the BPSC ASO result

Do not trust a screenshot forwarded in a group. Open the result PDF from the official source and search it yourself. Follow these steps:

  • Go to the official BPSC portal.
  • Look for the Assistant Section Officer result notice under Advt. No. 37/2025.
  • Open the result PDF and search for your roll number.
  • Check that your name, category and serial number match your own records.
  • Save a copy of the PDF and take a printout for your file.

If your roll number is there, keep watching the same portal for the next instructions on joining formalities. BPSC issues further directions through its own notices, and those are the only ones that count.

“Check the official PDF yourself, roll number by roll number. A forwarded screenshot is not a result, and a rumour is not a notice.”

Bihar candidates tracking other state lists can also follow the Bihar NEET UG stray vacancy allotment result, which was published this week, and the Bihar STET 2026 exam update for the exam now moved to November 21. More exam results are added here as commissions release them.
