617 make it: UPSC NDA 1 final result 2026 out, 66 women among those who qualified

The Union Public Service Commission has declared the final result of the National Defence Academy and Naval Academy Examination (I) 2026, and 617 candidates have made the merit list. The result was declared on 5 November 2026. Those who cleared the written test in April and the Services Selection Board interview after it can now check the list on the official UPSC portal. The 617 include 551 men and 66 women, and they have been recommended for the 157th Course at the NDA and the 119th Course at the Indian Naval Academy.
The merit list covers admission to the Army, Navy and Air Force wings of the NDA, along with the Naval Academy. This examination was held for 394 vacancies in all, 370 at the NDA and 24 at the Naval Academy. A place on the list is a big step, but it does not by itself confirm admission. Every candidate on it still has to clear document verification and the medical standards.
UPSC declared the UPSC CDS I final result 2026 earlier this week as well, with 243 candidates qualifying for the Indian Military Academy, the Indian Naval Academy and the Air Force Academy. Both results follow the same pattern: written test, then SSB interview, then a final merit list.
551 men and 66 women made the list
The final list carries 551 male candidates and 66 female candidates. Women have been joining the NDA since 2022, and the first batch of women cadets passed out from the academy in May 2025. The 66 women on this list will join that growing line.
The merit list gives the names and roll numbers of qualified candidates in order of merit. Check the full list, not just the first page, and match your roll number carefully before you celebrate. A single digit can separate two candidates.
How the merit list was prepared
The written examination was held on 12 April 2026. Candidates who cleared it were called for the SSB interview, run by the Services Selection Board of the Ministry of Defence. The final merit list is based on performance in both stages together.
One point needs care. The results of the medical examination were not taken into account while preparing this list. That means a candidate on the merit list still has to meet the medical standards for the service. The final joining depends on that check and on the document verification described below.
UPSC has also said that individual marks will not come out with the result. The marks will be uploaded on the official UPSC website 15 days after the declaration of the final result, which works out to around 20 November 2026.
What selected candidates must do now
UPSC’s press note puts it plainly:
“The candidature of all the candidates is provisional.”
Selected candidates must send their documents for verification. That means proof of date of birth and proof of educational qualifications. These papers go to the Additional Directorate General of Recruiting, Adjutant General’s Branch, Integrated Headquarters, Ministry of Defence (Army), at RK Puram in New Delhi. Do not send them to UPSC. Keep the documents you will need for admission ready in original and photocopy, and check the name and date of birth on each one. A small spelling mismatch can hold up the whole process.
How to check the UPSC NDA 1 final result 2026
- Go to the official UPSC website.
- Look for the link that says “Final Result: National Defence Academy and Naval Academy Examination (I), 2026”.
- Open the result PDF and press Ctrl+F to search for your roll number.
- Save a copy of the PDF, and note your rank and course in it.
If your roll number is not in the list, do not lose heart. The NDA II examination is the next chance, and the written test for it follows the same pattern.
