Top 1,000 in BITSAT? BITS Pilani Will Pay Your Full Tuition for 4 Years From 2027

BITS Pilani has doubled its biggest merit scholarship. From the 2027 admission cycle, students who rank among the top 1,000 in BITSAT will get a 100% tuition fee waiver for all four years of their undergraduate degree, provided their family earns up to Rs 20 lakh a year.

The announcement came on 1 November, and it was reported widely on 2 November. It is good news for students preparing for BITSAT 2027 right now, because the reward for a top rank just got much bigger. Earlier, this full tuition scholarship was limited to the top 500 rankers. Now twice as many students will qualify.

BITS Pilani Group Vice-Chancellor V Ramgopal Rao announced the expansion. He said the scholarship is built into the admission offer, which means eligible students will not have to fill a separate form after joining.

What exactly do you get?

The scholarship covers the entire tuition fee for the full four-year undergraduate programme. That is a big saving, because BITS Pilani is a private institute and its tuition fee is far higher than a government college. The waiver applies across the institute’s campuses, including Pilani, Goa and Hyderabad.

Two conditions decide whether you keep it. First, your rank in BITSAT must be within the top 1,000. Second, your family’s annual income must not be more than Rs 20 lakh. Once you are in, you must maintain a minimum CGPA of 7.5 to keep the scholarship going through the four years.

BITSAT is the computer-based entrance test for admission to BITS Pilani’s integrated first-degree programmes, including BE, MSc and BPharma. Track registration and exam updates on the official BITS admissions portal.

Why BITS doubled the number from 500 to 1,000

BITS Pilani started the full tuition scholarship for the top 500 rankers in 2026, and the institute says the result was clear. The number of eligible top-500 rankers who joined rose by 50 per cent in 2026. The BITSAT score needed to reach that group also went up, from 314 to 324.

The effect did not stop at rank 500. Students ranked between 501 and 1,000 also joined in larger numbers, even though they were not covered last year. Taken together, enrolment from the top 1,000 rankers grew by 50 per cent. That is why the institute has now extended the same benefit to the full top 1,000 from 2027.

Rao said the institute plans to keep expanding coverage, with a long-term goal of tuition-free admission for all.

“The scholarship is built into the admission offer, and students do not need to apply for it after joining. This allows top performers to choose BITS Pilani based on aspiration and opportunity, not affordability.”

How big is BITS Pilani’s scholarship support overall?

The numbers shared by the institute put the new scholarship in context. In 2025-26, BITS Pilani gave out around Rs 190 crore through scholarships, fee waivers and fellowships. Of that, Rs 101 crore went to undergraduate students. The institute says one in every four undergraduate students across its campuses received some form of financial help.

So the top-1,000 scholarship sits on top of a much wider support system. Students who do not make the top 1,000 may still qualify for other merit or need-based aid, and they should check the institute’s scholarship pages when they apply. Other current options on this site include the National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship deadline extended to November 15 and the Federal Bank Hormis Memorial Scholarship worth Rs 1 lakh.

For students comparing options, this automatic scholarship is different from most scholarships in India, where you apply separately and wait for a merit list. Here, your BITSAT rank and family income decide it, and the benefit comes with your admission offer.

What BITSAT 2027 aspirants should do now

If you are aiming for this scholarship, your preparation target is now clearer: a rank inside the top 1,000, with a score at least in the range that secured that group last year. The score needed rose from 314 to 324 in 2026, so the bar may move again as more strong students compete.

  • Focus BITSAT preparation on speed and accuracy, since the computer-based test has a tight time limit.
  • Check the official BITS admissions portal regularly for BITSAT 2027 registration dates, eligibility rules and detailed scholarship conditions.
  • Keep your family’s income documents ready, because the Rs 20 lakh income limit is part of eligibility.
  • Work on steady scores from the first semester itself, because you need a CGPA of 7.5 to keep the scholarship for four years.
