DU Gives You 9 More Days: 100% Fee Waiver Scheme Now Open Till October 23

Follow us on Google

If you study at Delhi University and fees are a worry, you have 9 more days. The University of Delhi has extended the last date for its Financial Support Scheme (FSS) 2026-27 to October 23, 2026. The earlier deadline was October 13. Eligible students can now get up to a 100 per cent fee waiver, based on family income.

The scheme comes from the Dean Students’ Welfare (DSW) office. It covers full-time undergraduate and postgraduate students of DU departments, institutes, and centres. The aim is simple. Students from lower-income families should not have to drop out or struggle because of fees.

What changed: October 13 deadline moved to October 23

Delhi University issued a notice pushing the last date by 10 days. Students who missed the first deadline now get a second chance. The online form stays open till October 23, 2026.

One point needs care. The university has said the schedule for submitting the printed copy of the form, along with documents, at the DSW office will come later. The online form comes first. Do not wait for the hard-copy dates to start your application.

How much money you actually get

The waiver depends on your annual family income. Delhi University has split students into two groups.

CategoryAnnual family incomeFee waiverMaximum amount
Category IUp to Rs 4 lakh100 per centActual fee or Rs 15,000, whichever is lower
Category IIRs 4.1 lakh to Rs 8 lakh50 per centActual fee or Rs 10,000, whichever is lower

Read the caps carefully. A 100 per cent waiver does not mean every charge on your fee slip disappears. You get the actual fee or Rs 15,000, whichever is lower. If your fee is Rs 9,000, you get Rs 9,000. If it is Rs 20,000, you get Rs 15,000.

“A 100 per cent waiver sounds like full freedom from fees. In practice, the cap decides the real amount. Check your fee slip before you count on a number.”

Who can apply, and who cannot

The scheme is open to full-time bona fide students enrolled in UG or PG programmes at a department, institute, or centre of the University of Delhi.

The exclusion list matters as much as the eligibility list. The following students cannot apply:

  • Students of DU constituent colleges
  • BTech students, except those at the Cluster Innovation Centre (CIC)
  • Students of five-year integrated law programmes
  • Students of the School of Open Learning (SOL) and NCWEB
  • Students with an Essential Repeat (ER) status in any previous examination

Many students get confused here. Delhi University has colleges and departments, and this scheme is for departments, institutes, and centres only. If you study at a constituent college, this scheme is not for you. Look at other scholarships for Indian college students instead, including the NSP scholarship final call that closes on October 31.

How to apply for DU FSS 2026-27

Apply online through the DSW portal. Follow these steps.

  • Open the official Financial Support Scheme page on the DSW website.
  • Fill the online form with details that match your documents exactly.
  • Keep your income, academic, fee, and bank documents ready before you submit.
  • Check every entry once more, then submit the form.
  • Save a copy of the submitted form. You will need the printout when the DSW office announces the hard-copy schedule.

Spelling mismatches cause the most trouble. If your name on the form differs from your name on your income certificate or bank papers, verification can stall.

Documents you should keep ready

The university asks for income, academic, fee, and bank papers. The exact list can vary by course and category, so read the official notice on the DSW portal before you apply. Keep these ready:

  • Income certificate or proof of annual family income
  • Previous marksheets or academic records
  • Fee receipt or fee slip for the current session
  • Bank account details in your own name
  • Aadhaar and other identity proof

Students who are also handling other DU paperwork should check the DU inter-college migration window rules separately. That process has its own dates and forms, and it does not mix with this fee waiver.

Why this scheme matters right now

October is a heavy month for student spending. Semester fees, exam forms, and hostel charges often land together. A waiver of up to Rs 15,000 can cover a full semester’s fee for many DU department courses. For a family earning up to Rs 4 lakh a year, that is real relief.

The extension also helps students who were stuck on documents. Income certificates take time. Bank papers take time. Ten extra days can be the difference between a complete form and a missed chance.

What to do today

Do not leave this for October 23. Portals slow down on the last day, and one missing paper can cost you the whole scheme. Open the DSW Financial Support Scheme page, read the official notice, and start the form now. If your income certificate is still pending, apply for it today and finish the rest of the form in the meantime.
