₹25,000 a Year: Labour Welfare Scholarship 2026 Closes October 31

Follow us on Google

Students whose parents work in the beedi, cine, or mining industries have until October 31, 2026, to claim their Labour Welfare Scholarship. The scheme pays up to ₹25,000 a year, and the money lands directly in the student’s bank account.

This is a central government scheme run by the Ministry of Labour and Employment under its Labour Welfare Organisation. It is meant for children of workers in industries that most scholarship schemes never reach: beedi rolling, cinema production, and iron ore, manganese, chrome, limestone, and dolomite mining.

Up to ₹25,000 a year, paid straight to your bank

The scholarship amount depends on what you are studying. Students in Classes 11 and 12 get ₹3,000 a year. Those in ITI, polytechnic, and undergraduate degree courses get ₹6,000 a year. Professional courses, including B.E., MBBS, and MBA, can get up to ₹25,000 a year.

Overall, the scheme covers students from Class 1 to professional degrees, with amounts ranging from ₹1,000 to ₹25,000 a year. For the current post-matric window, the entry point is Class 11.

Payment happens through Direct Benefit Transfer. That means the money goes to the student’s own bank account, not through the college. Your account details need to be correct before you submit the form.

“The scheme provides financial assistance to support the education of eligible workers’ children enrolled in recognised institutions across India.” — Ministry of Labour and Employment

The 6-month service rule: who actually qualifies

Your parent must be a registered or employed worker in the beedi, cine, iron ore, manganese ore, chrome ore, limestone, or dolomite mine sectors, with at least six months of continuous service. Contract workers and manual workers count too, as long as they meet the six-month rule.

You need to be studying in a regular course at a government-recognised institution. Distance learning does not qualify. You also need to have passed your previous exam on the first attempt. That part trips up many applicants, so check your marksheet history before applying.

Income limits that decide eligibility

For beedi and cine worker families, the monthly family income must not cross ₹10,000. Mine workers get a different treatment: manual, unskilled, and clerical workers can apply at any wage level. Only supervisory and managerial mine staff need to stay below ₹10,000 a month.

Most scholarships come with an income ceiling, so this is not unusual. But the Labour Welfare scheme is generous to mine workers at the lower grades, and many families simply do not know they qualify.

Keep these documents ready before you apply

Gather these before you open the application form:

  • Your parent’s worker identity card or mine worker registration details
  • Your Aadhaar card
  • Income certificate, where it applies
  • Your previous qualifying exam marksheet
  • This year’s fee receipt or a bonafide certificate from your college
  • A copy of your bank passbook showing the account number and IFSC code

Aadhaar-based One Time Registration is compulsory. You cannot fill the scholarship form without an OTR ID, and first-time users should factor in the extra time this takes. Students applying for other NSP scholarship schemes this October will recognise the same process: the National Scholarship Portal runs both windows.

How to apply on the National Scholarship Portal

Apply only on the official portal. Here is the process:

  1. Open the National Scholarship Portal and complete Aadhaar-based One Time Registration.
  2. Log in with your OTR ID and password.
  3. Choose the scheme “Financial Assistance for Education to the Wards of Beedi/Cine/IOMC/LSDM Workers – Post-Matric”.
  4. Enter your details and upload the documents.
  5. Review everything carefully, then submit before October 31, 2026.
  6. Save the acknowledgement. Your college still has to verify the application, so follow its instructions for the next step.

Don’t wait for the last week. Portal traffic spikes near deadlines, and a failed upload at 11 pm on October 31 does not count as an application. Students facing the same UP scholarship deadline this month should treat both applications the same way: early, and with documents ready.

Applying is not the end of the process

Your college or institution must verify your application by November 15, 2026. That is the institute’s job, not yours, but you should check with your college that it has been done. An unverified application will not move forward, no matter how correct it is.

The pre-matric window for students in Classes 1 to 10 closed on August 31. If that was your category, this year’s chance is over. Mark next June on your calendar instead, when the portal usually opens fresh.

Check the scheme conditions on the National Scholarship Portal before you finalise your form. Portals update their fine print, and the official page is the only version that matters.
