25 days left: NSP scholarship applications close on October 31, apply before you miss out

If you are counting on a government scholarship this year, the clock is ticking. Applications for most schemes on the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) shut on October 31, 2026. That leaves you 25 days to apply, fix your documents, and get your college to verify your form.

This is not about one scheme. The October 31 deadline covers the AICTE scholarships for technical students, PM-USP CSSS renewals, and the NMMSS scheme for school students. Your job does not end at submitting the form. Colleges must verify applications by November 15, and district or state offices finish their checks by November 30. Miss any of these dates and the money for this year is gone.

October 31 is the hard stop, and no extension is coming

The AICTE notification dated June 19, 2026 says the portal for its scholarship schemes stays open only till October 31. A university notice going out to colleges puts it even more bluntly: no request for extension will be entertained under any circumstances. So do not plan around a grace period. There is none.

Portal rush in the final week is real. Students who wait till the last days often get stuck with slow OTPs, rejected uploads, and colleges that have already closed their verification counters. Starting this week gives you room to fix mistakes.

Treat October 31 as final. The official notice makes it clear that no further extension will be given for any reason.

Which schemes close on October 31

Three AICTE schemes for technical students close on this date. The AICTE Pragati scholarship supports girl students in AICTE-approved courses, with up to two girls per family and a family income cap of Rs 8 lakh a year. Saksham is for specially-abled students with at least 40 percent disability and the same income limit. Swanath covers orphans, wards of Covid victims, and children of martyrs. All three pay Rs 50,000 a year.

Students already under the PM-USP Central Sector Scheme must renew by October 31 as well. Keep last year’s marksheet ready, because renewals need it. School students are not left out either. The NMMSS scheme for Class 9 students in government and aided schools also closes on October 31, with Rs 12,000 a year for one lakh students. Do these three things before you apply

Apply only on the National Scholarship Portal. These three steps cause the most rejections, so finish them first:

  • Complete your One-Time Registration (OTR). This is mandatory. It uses Aadhaar-based face authentication and gives you a unique registration ID. Keep your biometrics unlocked when you do it.
  • Seed your Aadhaar with your bank account. The scholarship reaches you through Direct Benefit Transfer. If your Aadhaar is not linked to your bank account, the payment fails even after approval.
  • Keep your UDID consent ready if you are applying under a disability quota. Students applying for Saksham must give their Unique Disability ID consent inside the portal before submitting.

Also match the name on your Aadhaar, bank account, and marksheets. Small spelling differences are one of the most common reasons forms get flagged as defective.

Your college must verify by November 15, or your form dies

Submitting the form is only step one. Your college’s Institute Nodal Officer has to verify it by November 15, 2026. After that, the district or state nodal officer completes the second level of checks by November 30. Track your status on the NSP dashboard so you can see if your form is stuck or marked defective.

If your form comes back with defects, do not panic and do not wait. Ask your Institute Nodal Officer to return it for correction well before November 15. Fix Aadhaar-bank mismatches by reseeding, and upload clear, stamped copies of your certificates. Once the portal locks the verification stages, corrections stop.

After your application clears both levels, you can track the money on the Public Financial Management System (PFMS) using its Know Your Payments option. Money moves to your Aadhaar-seeded account, which is one more reason to sort out the bank linking now.
