₹2 Lakh for First-Year B.Tech, MBBS Students: SDEF Scholarship Closes October 31

First-year students in B.Tech, MBBS, BDS and other professional courses can get up to ₹50,000 a year through the SDEF India Scholarship 2026-27. Applications close on October 31, 2026, and the foundation says it will not extend the deadline.
The SDEF India Scholarship 2026-27 is run by the Swami Dayanand Education Foundation. Selected students receive up to ₹2,00,000 over four years, renewed yearly on academic performance. Between 100 and 150 scholarships are awarded across India every year, and the form needs twelve document uploads, so starting early is the smart move.
SDEF India Scholarship 2026-27: who can apply
You must meet every condition below. Missing even one makes the application invalid.
- You must be a first-year, full-time undergraduate student in an eligible professional degree programme for the 2026-27 session.
- Eligible courses are B.Tech and B.E., MBBS, BDS, B.Sc Nursing, B.Pharm and Pharm.D, B.Arch, and BVSc and AH.
- You must have scored at least 80% marks or the equivalent CGPA in Class 12.
- Your total annual family income must be ₹12,00,000 or less, counting income from all sources.
- You must not have taken a drop year or gap year after Class 12. This is a hard rule. Even toppers who repeated the year for JEE or NEET cannot apply.
- You must meet the entrance exam cutoff that applies to your course.
Students admitted through state counselling or management quota can still apply, as long as they meet the rank cutoff for their programme.
Entrance exam cutoffs you must meet
The limits are strict and use all-India ranks: JEE Main 50,000 or below, JEE Advanced 40,000 or below, NEET UG 50,000 or below, and at least 100 marks in NATA for B.Arch. For nursing, pharmacy and veterinary programmes, the relevant recognised entrance exam applies.
How much you will actually get
Here is the detail most students miss. ₹50,000 a year is the maximum, not the standard award. The amount falls between ₹20,000 and ₹50,000 a year, and SDEF works it out from two things: your entrance exam rank and the average of your Class 10 and Class 12 marks.
“There is no deadline extension. SDEF has said plainly that it cannot make exceptions to the published last date.”
The full ₹50,000 goes only to students with an all-India rank under 5,000 and a Class 10-12 average above 95%. A student with a rank of 28,000 and an 86% average would get around ₹25,000 for the year. Eligibility runs up to a rank of 50,000, but the published slab stops at ranks under 40,000. Ranks in that last band should confirm their award with the foundation first.
The money goes to your college, not to your bank account
One important point: the scholarship is paid once a year, straight into your college or university account, for approved educational expenses. It does not land in your personal bank account, so it will not cover costs you pay outside the institution.
Renewal is not automatic either. Every year, SDEF reviews your academic record and continued eligibility. You must stay enrolled full-time, have no backlogs, keep satisfactory marks, and fill the renewal form each year. The scholarship can be stopped mid-degree if you stop meeting the conditions or give false information.
Twelve documents you need before you start
The form asks for twelve uploads, and unclear scans mean an incomplete application. Get these ready first: a recent passport-size photo, your Aadhaar card, Class 10 and Class 12 marksheets, your entrance exam scorecard, the admission letter, your college ID card, the latest fee receipt, family income proof, a recent utility bill, three photographs of your home inside and outside, and the signed SDEF Scholar Pledge.
Download the pledge first. It has to be printed, signed and scanned again, the one item you cannot arrange in five minutes. Make sure the fee details, income proof and fee receipts all match too. Mismatched numbers can sink an otherwise strong application.
How to apply before October 31
- Open the official SDEF India Scholarship page and read the eligibility screen carefully.
- Download the Scholar Pledge, print it, sign it and scan it.
- Scan all twelve documents and check that each one is clear and within the upload size limit.
- Click the fresh-application link and fill the nine sections of the form, from personal details and academics to family income and documents.
- Save your progress as you go and submit well before October 31. Applications are online only, and there is no fee.
After the form, selection runs in stages: application review, document verification, an online assessment for shortlisted candidates, and a personal interview. The foundation warns that plagiarism, fabricated documents and undisclosed AI-written answers lead to disqualification. Every answer has to be your own work, and only one application is allowed.
Students from agricultural families are welcome and should declare their land holdings with supporting documents. Preference may also go to first-generation college students and meritorious women from poorer backgrounds, with 30% of awards reserved for girls.
Note that the PM Scholarship Scheme 2026-27 also closes on October 31, for wards of defence and police personnel.
