Oct 31 Deadline: ₹2 Lakh Tuition Help for SC Students at Top Colleges

If you are an SC student in the first year of college at a premier institution, mark this date: October 31, 2026. That is when applications close for the Central Sector Scholarship of Top Class Education for SC Students for the 2026-27 session. You have nine days left. The scheme pays your full tuition fees, up to ₹2 lakh a year at private institutions, and adds a yearly academic allowance for living costs, books and a laptop.
The scheme is run by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. It exists for one reason: so that bright SC students who get into the country’s top colleges are not forced out by the fees.
Four conditions decide whether you can apply
Check each one honestly before you start the form.
- Category: you must belong to a Scheduled Caste community and hold a valid caste certificate.
- Family income: total annual family income from all sources must not exceed ₹8 lakh. You will need an income certificate issued by a revenue officer.
- Course and college: you must be in the first year of a full-time undergraduate or postgraduate course at an institution notified under the scheme. These include IITs, NITs, IIITs, NLUs, IIMs and AIIMS, along with other institutions the Ministry has notified.
- First year only: fresh applications are accepted only from first-year students. If you are in your second or third year, you cannot apply fresh under this scheme.
Two more rules matter. Only two siblings from the same family can get this scholarship. And 30 per cent of the slots at each institution are reserved for eligible SC girl students, decided on merit. If not enough girl students apply, those slots pass to eligible boys on merit. Where applicants outnumber the slots, the college picks by its own admission merit, and family income breaks ties.
Getting into a top college is only half the battle. This scholarship makes sure the fee bill does not push you out of it.
What the scholarship actually pays
The money has two parts. First, the scheme covers your full tuition fees and non-refundable charges. At private-sector institutions this is capped at ₹2 lakh per student per year.
Second, you get an academic allowance: ₹86,000 in your first year and ₹41,000 in every year after that. This covers living expenses, books and stationery, and a computer or laptop from a reputed brand with basic accessories like a UPS and printer.
The money does not go through the college. It is paid directly to you through Direct Benefit Transfer into your Aadhaar-linked bank account, and you deposit the fees with your institute within a month of receiving it. Payment starts once you have secured admission and your classes have begun.
Once awarded, the scholarship runs with you until the course ends, provided your performance stays satisfactory. Repeat the year, and the support for that year stops.
How to apply before October 31
Applications run on the National Scholarship Portal. The window opened on June 1, 2026, and it closes on October 31. Scheme details and guidelines are also on the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment website.
- Register on the portal and select the “Central Sector Scholarship of Top Class Education for SC Students” for 2026-27.
- Keep your caste certificate, income certificate, admission proof and Aadhaar-linked bank account details ready before you begin.
- Fill the form and submit well before the last day. Heavy traffic near deadlines often causes upload failures on scholarship portals.
- Track your application. Verification of defective applications and institute-level verification close on November 15, and the district/state/national verification level closes on November 30. If your institute has not verified your form by November 15, your payment can get stuck.
Other schemes closing on the same day

If you already hold the Central Sector Scholarship from last year, remember that the PM-USP CSSS renewal also closes on October 31, and renewal is never automatic.
